MENISCUS INJURIES

A meniscus injury damages the tissue between the femur and the shin bone. This can happen when the knee joint rotates too far during sports or other vigorous activities and often occurs at the same time as other knee injuries. Since the meniscus weakens with age, the risk increases for older athletes. More than 40 percent of people 65 years of age or older experience a meniscus injury.

injury treatment options

Treatment Options

Treatment options for a meniscus injury depend on a person’s age, the location, and size of the tear. Incomplete tears can be managed with rehabilitation. Physical therapy may also be helpful to regain strength and flexibility. Other options include prescriptions, medications, medical procedures, physiotherapeutic therapy, and MRIs. In most cases, surgery will be required to repair a torn meniscus.
